Life isn't about waiting for the storms to pass--it's about learning to dance in the rain.

Soccer Stars

I'm pretty sure I have the most talented siblings in the world.

This post is slightly overdue; my brothers, Eli and Jacob, played on the Borah High School varsity soccer team in the Idaho state tournament last weekend. STATE CHAMPS, BABY! I couldn't be more excited or proud.

Some stats:
  • In the quarterfinals against Boise High School (which I happen to have a deep and abiding prejudice against) Eli scored 2 of the 3 goals (the score was 3-2) and Jacob got all the assists.
  • In the semifinals against Lake City (score: 3-2), Jacob scored the first and second goals off a corner and a header respectively, and Eli headed the last goal in to seal the victory.
  • In the championship game against Centennial High School (score: 3-1) Eli scored the last of the three goals. Borah lost to Centennial last year in the championship game, (Centennial scored in the last 10 seconds) so it was an especially sweet victory.
Yeah--I think a lot of the inheritable athletic talent went to them. They're pretty much famous now; check out the newspaper articles here and here and the pictures here (Jacob is #13, and Eli is #19)

Quite the dynamic duo, aren't they? And so handsome, too. :)  Pictures to come!

Halloween Happenin's

So Friday night was our ward Halloween party--I dressed up as a ninja. I consider my costume especially effective since no one saw me for the first hour and a half of the party--I was completely invisible. No, the fact that I had to work until ten would have nothing to do with that. :)

This is me and my roommates all decked out in our Halloween finery: from left to right, Jessica was a pirate lassie, Ashley was a gangster (yo), Stacey was a fairy, and I, of course, am the one in the ridiculously awesome ninja costume on the right.
I would like to point out that I provided at least part of 75% of our costumes; Jessica's costume is basically all mine, Ashley is wearing my hat, and I, of course, am wearing a disguise of my own possession. Yes, I am taking partial ownership of the general apartment awesomeness. :)

They played Michael Jackson's "Thriller" at the party, as any truly good Halloween party would, and I was appalled at my decrease in dancing skill--I learned the dance (music video version) my senior year of high school and though I generally run through it on a fairly regular basis, I have been sadly negligent of late. Never fear--I came home, pulled up the video on YouTube, and refreshed my memory. Lessons available upon request.

Wardrobe Wishes

Oh, the things I would buy if I had money. Fall seems to be the time we think about buying new clothes for school and such, but since I grew up and now have to pay for school (and rent, and food, and computer repairs), clothes have gone down on the list. Don't get me wrong-- I am very, very happy to have the clothes that I do, and grateful that I'm as tall as I'm ever going to be and don't grow out of stuff so I can wear things longer. But if I had a million dollars (or even just a thousand) to spend on clothes alone, these are a few of the things I would buy:

  1. Red, patent leather, peep-toe, four-inch stilettos. Insensible, I know, but who wants to be sensible all the time? I've always wanted a pair of red high heels. They would make me feel tall.. and POWERFUL. Yeah.
  2. A yellow rain jacket. Or a black one. So classic. And nice and warm and dry. (Can you guess what the weather has been like in Provo lately?)
  3. BYU sweats. Coolness, comfort, coziness and Cougar pride all in one. One of my favorite things in the world is feeling the soft fuzzy inside of a new sweatshirt or sweatpants.
  4. Long, knee-length basketball shorts with pockets. My roommate Ashley sold me on this one. Well, sold me as in I want some really bad but can't bring myself to fork over the $30 to buy them. They're long, they're comfortable for both exercising and relaxing, and they have POCKETS. Can't get much better than that.
So, um, yeah, my birthday is coming up soon... :)

    Dear Computer

Well, little computer, it has been a long day. It is now 2 am and I have just finished my annotated bibliography and essay for my American Lit class that's due tomorrow. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for not going haywire on me and shutting off the backlight to your screen, as you have been prone to do lately. I need to take you to the shop. I promise I will soon--I just haven't had the time. Thank you so much for cooperating--I really needed you to tonight, and you rose to the occasion.

    Much obliged,

    Ariel

    Girl's Night with Heath Ledger

Now, I am not a Heath Ledger fan, really. I actually don't even know if that's how you spell his name. But in my Early British Literary History class last week we read a few of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales (including The Knight's Tale) and therefore, in the name of Academia and Cultural Enrichment, my roommates and I just HAD to watch the 2001 movie.

So we ordered Chinese take-out (which I seem to crave continuously--I love Chinese food) and spent Friday evening eating with chopsticks and punctuating the movie with hysterical laughter and peanut-gallery style commentary. Heck yes. This apartment keeps it real. We've even made plans to be Team Ulrich for Halloween, complete with face paint. It's gonna be awesome.

P.S. I've decided I really need to get my hands on a digital camera somehow... I need pictures.
